Digitizing at our Center
This month the focus is on all of the digitization equipment we have in the center. Just bring a flash drive, no other cost involved, we can save you thousands of dollars in digitizing your items. And we can then help you attach those memories to your FamilySearch account so everyone can enjoy them. Come in to check out our services. Appointments and reservations are not required. But if you wish to make a reservation to use these devices, just call the center or drop by to schedule an appointment. That way you are guaranteed the machine will be available on the day you wish.
This is our all in one scanner. It is a flat bed scanner and capable of scanning photos, documents, negatives, slides and can do pages from books.
This device will transfer VHS, VHS-C, and DVDs to mp4 format on your flash drive. And we just recently got access to a couple of cameras that will enable us to transfer JVC tapes and the mini cassette tapes to digital as well. This machine works in real time. A 2 hour movie will take 2 hours to convert. Although videos can not be uploaded directly to FamilySearch, you can create a YouTube channel and use the links from those videos in the source section of FamilySearch to share with your family.
Have any audio cassette tapes or reel to reel audio laying around? Come in and see what's on them as you convert them to mp3. These can be uploaded directly to FamilySearch and shared with your family. We also have software on one computer to assist in editing the playback. This machine converts in real time, a 30 minute tape takes 30 minutes to convert.
We have two fast photo scanners, which can scan several hundred photos per hour and can also make multi-page pdfs for those photocopies multi-pages family histories. They are also capable of doing the long Book of Remembrance pages.
This machine will transfer VHS (or JVC or mini cassette) to a DVD for viewing on your TV. For those who don't want to go completely the digital mp4 format on a flash drive. This machine converts in real time. A 2 hour movie will take 2 hours to convert.
Need to make extra copies of those dvds to share with family? This will duplicate them in a few minutes.
It's been awhile since computers had a 3.5 inch floppy disk drive... but you might have some old floppy disks laying around. We have two disk readers at the center. Bring your old disks and see if there are any photos or stories waiting to be found.
8mm movies were a popular format from the 1950-1980's. You might have some stashed in a box somewhere. We have two machines to digitize them. Warning- this is a long process. For a 3 minute movie on the small reel (as shown in the photo) it takes about 20-25 minutes. The bigger 5-7 inch reels take about 5-7 hours. Contact us and we can start them in the morning for you, and you come in the afternoon to finish up the process. There is no sound capability on this machine.
Who doesn't have a few slides in the top of their closets? Bring them into the center, we have three machines to convert slides. These machines will also convert negatives. Once converted, you can attach them to FamilySearch and print out photos at your favorite photo center.
Just want to view your slides before deciding if they are worth digitizing- we have a slide projector and screen available for your use.
